Truth and Reconciliation Flag

There are many flags and graphics representing the “Truth and Reconciliation” and “Every Child Matters” movements, in Canada in particular. From my search, designs are either copyrighted, or copyright status is unclear. To include a flag in software I was coding, I had to design the above in order to put it in the public domain. So I did, and it is.

Truth and Reconciliation Flag by David C. Walley is marked with CC0 1.0

A child’s handprints, perhaps the oldest example of art in the world, according to the Smithsonian, form a negative space heart, representing love and the hole that remains in our hearts for lost lives and childhoods. The hands come from above, where we trust the missing are now – safe in the hands of the Creator. The color black represents truths hiding in darkness that need to be heard, while orange represents sunrise on a new day of hope of reconciliation. The design is universal across languages and cultures, focusing on what we all share. Perfect, authentic versions can be created by any child.

Please feel free to use and share in love and peace, knowing you are free to do so.
